Failure of Development of the Testis: Case History

A 3-year-old boy is brought to your clinic for well child care. On exam, you cannot palpate a right testis. The left testis is normal in the scrotum.

"Doctor," the mother implores, "Will my son ever be normal? Will he be able to father children?" You should:

Tell the mother the testis never developed.

Look for the testis.
