A 4 year old boy is brought to the emergency room with
a history of 2-3 hours of left scrotal pain. The child has no history
of fever or dysuria (painful urination). He has never had this pain
before.
The physical exam reveals an otherwise healthy child with tenderness in the left hemiscrotum. The appearance of the scrotum is shown at the left. You should:
