- The superior mesenteric artery arises from
the anterior surface of abdominal aorta.
- Arises 1 cm below celiac trunk
- It extends along the mesentery to the
right lower quadrant

- Anastamoses with Inferior mesenteric
artery
- Relationship
- It is accompanied by superior mesenteric
vein
- Anteriorly
- Splenic vein
- Body of Pancreas
- Left renal vein
- Posteriorly
- Uncinate process of pancreas
- Horizontal portion of duodenum
- Supplies
- Small bowel
- Cecum
- Ascending colon
- Right 2/3 of transverse colon
