Pulmonary artery

Pulmonary outflow tract is recognizable along upper anterior margin of heart.

• Right lung is in contact with pulmonary outflow tract

Main pulmonary artery divides into left and right pulmonary artery

• Right pulmonary artery takes a horizontal route to right lung at the level of RUL bronchus.

  • It traverse below the aortic arch and in front of right main stem bronchus.

  • It is behind Superior Vena Cava.

  • You see it end on and appears oval to round

• Left pulmonary artery course upwards and hooks around left upper division bronchus to descend to left lung.

  • You can see it coursing above the LUL bronchus as a tubular shadow.
