Diaphragm
You should be able to identify both the diaphragms in a lateral view.
If one diaphragm is missing it indicates that there is a problem in one hemi thorax.
How to identify the diaphragm
Normal right diaphragm projects with outer ribs due to phenomenon of divergence.
Normal right diaphragm is lower due to the same phenomenon
Right diaphragm is seen in its entirety, while you loose the anterior portion of left diaphragm due to heart (silhouette sign)
Stomach bubble is seen immediately under the left diaphragm
If you can identify fissures then it helps to see which diaphragm they contact.
Flattening of diaphragm is best assessed by lateral view
