Nuclear medicine Multiple Gated Acquisition (MUGA)

MUGA measures how well your heart is functioning as a pump. The MUGA measures how much blood your heart pumps, or "ejects" with each contraction (ejection fraction).

In left anterior oblique view the nuclear camera can separate left from right heart function.    

Example Indications

• Left ventricular function

Limitation

• MUGA equipment is both more scarce and more expensive
• Not suited for patients with a really irregular heart rhythm
