Radiological Manifestations of Pneumonia
Lobar Pneumonia:
- Encountered with pneumococcus, mycoplasma and legionella pneumonia
- Segmental, lobar or multilobar air space inflammation
- Lung abscess is rare.
- Empyema is rare.
- Most resolve completely with no residual changes.
- Radioligically indistinguishable from mycoplasma and legionella
pneumonia
Necrotizing Pneumonia:
- Encountered with anaerobes, staphylococcus, pseudomonas, klebsiella and E
coli
- Rapidly progressive necrotizing bronchopneumonia
- Indistinguishable radiologically
- Clinical setting and cultures help in diagnosis
- Empyema is common.
Diffuse Bilateral Alveolar Pneumonia:
- Encountered with influenza, pneumocystis, CMV, mycoplasma and legionella
infections
Diffuse Interstitial Pneumonia:
- Mostly viral infections - chicken pox
Segmental Pneumonia:
- Encountered with aspiration and post obstructive pneumonia
