GI and Abdomen Case 8:  Acute Cholecystitis

Acute Calculus Cholecystitis: Acute inflammation of gallbladder. 96% of cases are from obstruction of cystic duct.

Ultrasound Features:

Presence of stones, without other signs, does not indicate cholecystitis.

Radionuclide Scan: (HIDA) Non visualization of gallbladder secondary to cystic duct obstruction is the diagnostic findings.

Emphysematous Cholecystitis: Air in the wall, and or lumen of gallbladder, secondary to associated infection with E. Coli, Streptococci, Cl Welchii. Patients are usually diabetic.
