• Origin and course
  • A branch from the abdominal aorta. 
  • Arises 3-4 cm above the bifurcation from the anterior surface of abdominal aorta
  • Descends along the left side of aorta in front of spine
• Branches
  • Anastamoses with Superior mesenteric artery
• Supplies
  • Left 1/3rd of transverse colon
  • Descending Colon 
  • Sigmoid
  • Rectum.
