• Portal veins is 8 cm long

• Starts by the confluence of Splenic and Superior mesenteric vein at the level of second lumbar vertebra

• Course and Relationship

  • Starts behind the Pancreas right of midline

  • Lies between the common bile duct on the right and the common Hepatic artery on left

  • Crosses IVC anteriorly

• Ends by dividing into right and left branches at the Porta hepatis

• Receives

  • Left and Right Gastric veins
