The Edinger-Westphal nucleus gives rise to parasympathetic innervation that travel in the Oculomotor Nerve (III) to the ciliary ganglion. These fibers are an essential element of the circuit of the pupillary light reflex (light in one eye causes both pupils to constrict) and the accommodation reflex (innervation to the ciliary muscle for adaptation to near vision)
Note also the rootlets of the III nerve exiting the Oculomotor Nucleus ventrolaterally and coursing through the MLF..
The Interstitial Nucleus of Cajal is an accessory oculomotor nucleus involved in the control of vertical eye movements.
