Pathophysiology of Obstructive Apneas 
  - Initial pharyngeal obstruction: 
      - Usually occurs at level of velopharynx, may also occur in hypopharynx 
- Pharyngeal dilator muscle hypotonia, especially during REM sleep 
- Compromised anatomy of upper airway 
 
- Consequences of occlusion 
      - Hypoxemia 
- Hypercapnia 
- Arousal 
 
- Post-apneic Ventilation
