Prostate-Walnut sized organ which secretes acid phosphatase and zinc into semen. Secretes 25% of seminal volume. Means "protector" Alkaline secretions neutralize vagina. Secretes prostate specific antigen (PSA) which can be monitored for cancer
Urogenital Diaphragm- consists of urethral sphincter and deep transverse perineal muscle. Sandwiched between the superior and inferior fascia of the ug diaphragm. Known as the" deep pouch" and contains the bulbourethral glands in the male.
Corpora cavernosum-paired cylinders of erectile tissue. Contain 80% of blood in a erection. Termed crura when touching pubic rami. Erection is under parasympathetic control. "point and shoot"
Corpus spongiosum-Erectile tissue which keeps the urethra open during erection. Continuous with the bulb of the penis.
Spongy urethra-- urethra covered by the corpus spongiosum, when damaged during a" straddle injury" urine and blood can leak into scrotum and up abdominal wall.
Vas deferens--transmits sperm from epididymis to urethra while picking up secretions from seminal vesicles and prostate. Muscle is under sympathetic control.Travels thru superficial ring then inguinal canal and into deep ring on way to prostate.
Foreskin--prepuce. removal is called circumcision, tight foreskin is phimosis.
Glans penis--erectile tissue continuous with the corpus spongiosum
Navicular fossa
Tunica albuginea--dense white fibrous connective tissue covering of testes. covered partially by the tunica vaginalis
Teste--Manufactures sperm and testosterone. 80% of men have right testicle higher. Contains seminiferous tubules. Supplied by testicular artery off of aorta. Lymph drains to paraaortic nodes. Left teste drains venous blood to renal vein while right goes to inf. vena cava
Epididymis--tightly coiled duct connecting efferent testicular ducts to vas deferens. Has head, body, and tail. Stores sperm produced by testes. Lined with pseudostratified epithelium.
