time will be calculated from the scheduled starting time.
Surgery
charges include pre-operative procedures (i.e. anesthetic
induction) and sedatives/anesthetics, use of one surgery
room, and technical support from one Animal Health Care
Technician. It does not include surgeon fees.
Post-Operative Care: includes recovery monitoring, analgesics,
antibodies and fluids: $65.00 / day.
Failure
to cancel O.R. space 24 hours prior to a scheduled procedure
will result in a one-hour charge.
Charges for use of the necropsy room (Bld 102/0637) and
procedure rooms (Bld 102/0635, 3652a, 3655 and Bld 110/5262)
will be charged at a rate of $10.00 per hour.
What must be accomplished
by PI prior to surgery:

Valid protocol,
IACUC number and animal order form completed.
-
Completed CMF surgery
training classes by ALL members of surgical team.
-
Read and signed
surgical SOP agreement.

Pre-surgical meeting
with CMF technician to arrange for proper instruments,
scheduling of surgical room and assistance.
Note:
All members of the surgical team must be noted on the IACUC
form.
What the researcher
must provide:
-
Any
specialized instruments used during the surgery.
-
Any
antibiotics and analgesics necessary following the surgery
-
A
technician to administer the antibiotics/analgesics
and conduct daily observations and records of the animal'
s recovery.
Note:
The post-operative period begins immediately after surgery
and ends when the incision is healed and the sutures are
removed.
What we provide:

A
sterile environment within which to perform the surgery.
-
Basic
instruments for surgeries performed on animals.
-
Pre-anesthetics,
anesthetics, initial antibiotics and analgesics.
-
Basic
sterile instruments including a bovie knife, surgical
knives, various retractors, scissors, pickups, hemostats,
and sutures.
-
Pre-
and post-operative care including pre-anesthesia/analgesia,
intubation, and monitoring apparatus hookup. We
also monitor the animal's depth of sedation and keep
detailed records during surgery that include temperature,
heart rate, and capillary refill time.

Euthanasia
for non-survival surgeries.
