MEDIA ALERT: Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine Students Brave the Shave for Pediatric Cancer Research
On April 24 more than 30 medical students, faculty, and staff at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine will shave their heads in support of pediatric cancer research by taking part in Stritch’s first annual St. Baldrick’s Day celebration.
“I hope this is a springboard for others to help support pediatric cancer research. This is an often overlooked area when it comes to funding, but it directly affects some of our most vulnerable patients, children. By combining the efforts of the Stritch students, faculty, and staff with the local Maywood community we have the opportunity to raise funds as well as awareness for this vital research,” said Patrick Kramer, first-year medical student and event organizer.
The afternoon will include food, music, and of course head shaving. In addition, pediatric cancer patients and their families will share their stories and experiences.
“As medical students we can feel limited at what we can do to make a difference in the health community during this early stage of training. But, supporting cancer research is just one way we can make a tangible difference right now,” Kramer said.
Last month Loyola University Chicago undergrad students led the way in braving the shave raising nearly $30,000 to benefit pediatric cancer research.
