Loyola Faculty Member Named Fellow of Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society

MAYWOOD, Ill. -- Ida Androwich, PhD, RN-BC, FAAN, was recently appointed a fellow to the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) for her service, experience, publications and presentations in this area. HIMSS is an international organization devoted to promoting a better understanding of health-care information and management systems. Dr. Androwich is a professor of nursing and business and the director of Health Systems Management at Loyola University Chicago. She also teaches graduate courses in health-care informatics, information systems, outcomes performance management and population-based infection control.

“This appointment represents Ida's achievements in information systems education, research and public policy development,” said Vicki Keough, PhD, RN-BC, ACNP, dean, MNSON. “Loyola and the profession of nursing have benefited immensely from Ida’s pioneering efforts to improve care through information technology."

Dr. Androwich’s work has helped to optimize technology for the nursing profession by enhancing information systems with standard terminology and evidence-based content to support decision making and work flow. Dr. Androwich also has made strides in mentoring doctoral students in progressive data-mining research and in the establishment of innovative educational master's programs that develop highly skilled health-care leaders in information systems.

“Information systems are integral to the evolving health-care environment,” Dr. Androwich said. “I am honored to be acknowledged for this work and I look forward to collaborating with my colleagues to further advance nursing using information technology."

Dr. Androwich also was invited by the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International, to become an inaugural member of the Advisory Committee for the future development and enhancement of the Virginia Henderson International Nursing Library. Dr. Androwich graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Loyola University Chicago. She also has a Master of Science degree in public health nursing and a doctorate in public health from the University of Illinois.
