Loyola Anesthesiologists Contribute Expertise to National Anesthesia Reference Manual

MAYWOOD, Ill. -- Four Loyola anesthesiologists have written chapters for the Manual of Clinical Anesthesiology, a popular reference and teaching tool used in hospitals across the nation.

Scott W. Byram, MD, assistant professor of anesthesiology at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, and Steven Edelstein, MD, professor of anesthesiology at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, co-wrote a chapter that discusses the anesthetic implications of heart failure.

Lisa Gramlich, MD, associate professor and director of pediatric anesthesiology at Loyola University Medical Center, wrote a chapter on providing anesthesia care to patients with asthma and reactive airway disease.

Sabin Oana, MD, assistant professor of anesthesiology at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, shared his expertise concerning anesthetic care and the neuromuscular disease myasthenia gravis.

“It was great to be able to contribute to this resource for clinicians and be able to share our passion and knowledge with others,” Gramlich said. “Asthma is a huge issue in this country and, for me personally, it was important to educate others about how to best treat surgical patients with asthma."

The manual is a highly visual rapid-reference resource for clinical anesthesiologists.
