Impact of Integrative Medicine Explored at Loyola Conference

WHAT:  Integrative medicine has become a vital tool in medical practitioners’ arsenal to treat the whole person and not just the disease. Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine is hosting a full-day conference that will examine its role in today’s medical care.

“Participants will gain a great knowledge of the alternative treatments that are available for patients and how to integrate them with traditional medical care to benefit patients,” said Dr. Aaron Michelfelder, associate professor of family medicine at Stritch.

Highlights include a session on dance/yoga fusion, group discussions about challenges in integrative medicine research and leaders in the field talking about what is on the horizon for integrative care.

“One of our goals is to help medical students see that not all treatments will be covered in standard medical education. We need to be open to what will most benefit our future patients and look at what other treatments can be integrated with the standard of care we are learning to provide,” said Robin Ortiz, medical student organizer for the conference.
