Small Group Session: Immediately following the lecture, SDLs, Shared Classrooms, or CSC (330)

Equipment: Bring tuning fork, reflex hammer, ophthalmoscope, shorts and tank top to wear to facilitate practicing the exam steps on each other.
Session Objectives Teaching Methods
  1. Demonstrate the basic mechanics of using an ophthalmoscope and reflex hammer.
  2. Perform steps 6b, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16c, 16d, 16e, 17, 51e, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58 of the Basic Screening Examination Details Refer to Neuro Exam Details (pdf file) see link above.
  3. Write up a neurological examination.
  1. Brief Q&A  to review the major concepts learned from the readings, video, and lecture.
  2. Co-facilitator demonstrates steps 6b, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16c, 16d, 16e, 17, 51e, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58   of the Basic Screening Examination to the group.
  3. In smaller groups, students practice these steps on one another. Each student must be observed performing these steps.
  4. Co-facilitator demonstrates how to write up the the neurological exam.
