- Inspect the penis in standing position.
- Note hair distribution at the base of Penis to assess sexual maturity
- Ask the patient to retract the foreskin, if he has one.
- Examine Penis with gloved hands.
- Inquire for latex allergy
- Palpate the shaft of penis both along dorsal and ventral surface
- Hold glans and gently compress it between two fingers to observe the urethral
meatus.
- Pass your finger along the inferior surface to feel urethra.
- Note which direction penis is pointing to.
- Inspect the glans and describe the mucous membrane.
- Note the location and appearance of the urethral meatus.
Normal: Penis points to left. Covered by
hairless Skin.
on retraction of foreskin Smegma (whitish cheesy material) may be noted.
Urethral meatus is in the center of glans, patent and has no discharge.
