Loud first heart sound

Note loud S1 in a patient with mitral stenosis. You also hear the crisp diastolic opening snap.

Loud S1 is heard in:

• Mitral stenosis
• High output states
  • Anemia
  • Thyrotoxicosis
  • Fever
