Method Of Exam

This step is included in the physical exam even though it is a procedure, as it is an integral part of the rectal exam.

• Withdraw your finger and test any retained stool fecal matter for occult blood.
• Open the Guaiac testing kit and spread a thin film of stool onto the designated area. Close the cover and apply two drops of solution onto the control and specimen areas. Observe the change of color.
• Follow instructions on kit for evaluation of results.

Caution:

The current recommendation is to defer to three stools for occult blood testing. During Rectal exam there may be some injury and stool may test positive for blood..
