Abnormal Finding

When the kidney is easily palpable, note whether it is bilateral or unilateral. If a mass is identifiable, note the:

• Size
  • Unilateral enlargement: (Hydronephrosis, tumor, cyst)
  • Bilateral enlargement: (Polycystic kidney)
• Tenderness
  • Acute pyelonephritis
  • Acute glomerulonephritis
  • Renal or perirenal abscess
  • Acute hydronephrosis
