Solitary Pulmonary Nodule

Solitary pulmonary nodule is a single round or oval density of the lung with sharp margins, arbitrarily limited to lesions less than 3 cms in size.  Anything larger than that should be referred to as a mass. The old terminology is coin lesion. The criteria for defining a lesion as a solitary pulmonary nodule are:

• Size - Less than 3 cms
• Number - Single
• Margin - Sharp
• Shape - Round or Oval
