Line up your syringe and needle with the artery and enter it
between
your index and middle finger. Make sure that the bevelled edge is
facing towards the heart to facilitate blood flow. Plunge the
needle
and attempt to go through the artery and beyond.
Now, gently withdraw the syringe a few millimeters at a time and
wait
to see whether it will fill with blood. Once the needle re-enters
the
lumen of the artery, blood will spontaneously fill the syringe in
a pulsatile
manner.
