Objective Assessment Tools

Medical Knowledge will be assessed using a multiple-choice test. Faculty will also rate knowledge skills based on their experience with the student. Equal weight will be given to both the test and faculty assessments.
Assessment of Communication skills will be based on direct faculty observation.
Assessment of Professionalism will be based on direct faculty observation, compliance with course expectations and evaluation of the folder and logbook.
Patient care skills will be assessed by direct faculty observation and evaluation of the logbook.
Practiced-Based Lifelong Learning will be assessed by direct faculty observation and evaluation of the folder and logbook.
Social and Community Context competencies will be assessed by direct faculty observation, evaluation of the logbook and through written narrative included in the folder.

Grading

Each of the six core objectives will be given equal weight in determining a grade of Honors, High Pass, Pass, or Fail. Faculty who worked with the student will provide subjective comments and a grade. The course director will determine the final grade based on all evaluation sources. Students must satisfactorily achieve each objective in order to pass. Expectations INCREASE as students progress further in medical school . PASS means the objectives were satisfactorily met for a student at that level. HIGH PASS means expectations were exceeded. HONORS means that the student was distinctly superior when compared to his/her peers.
