The Nucleus Ambiguus can be seen as a small cluster of red-stained neurons located ventrolaterally in the reticular formation (RF). The NA provides SVE innervation to branchial arch derived muscles of the pharynx and larynx, In addition, like the Dorsal Motor Nucleus, it also provides some preganglionic parasympathetic (GVE) innervation to the heart.
