Key Concepts and Learning Objectives

Describe the relevant anatomy and physiology as it pertains to the normal screening examination of the musculoskeletal system.
Introduce maneuvers that elicit lower extremity findings. 

Small Group Session: Immediately following the lecture, SDLs, Seminar Rooms, or CSC (330)

Equipment Required: Bring tank top and shorts to wear to facilitate practicing the exam steps on each other.
Session Objectives Teaching Methods
  1. Perform steps 3, 4, 21, 22, 51, and 59 of the BSE.
  2. Write up an examination of the musculoskeletal system.
  3. Learn lower extremity maneuvers.
  1. Brief discussion  to review the major concepts learned from the readings and lectures.
  2. Co-facilitators review musculoskeletal exam and ensure understanding by all.
  3. In smaller groups, students practice these steps on one another.
  4. Co-facilitators review how to write up the exam.
  5. Practice lower extremity maneuvers on each other.
