Loyola University Medical Education Network Dissection of the Spinal Cord

This cross section of a model demonstrates the formation of a spinal nerve (1) from a dorsal root (2) and a ventral root (3). Cell bodies of the dorsal root neurons are located in the dorsal root ganglion (4). The spinal nerve divides into a dorsal ramus (5) and a larger ventral ramus (6). The vertebral body (7) and lamina (8) are labeled for orientation.
