Sofield Traveling Fellowship

Harold A. Sofield, MD was the founder and first director of the Hines-Shriners residency program from 1946-1965. It was in his honor that the Sofield/Loyola Alumni Association was established, with the organization meeting annually at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons convention.

The Sofield Traveling Fellowship is awarded to an outstanding graduate following completion of the Orthopaedic Residency at Loyola or completing a formal post-residency fellowship after completing the Loyola Orthopaedic Surgery Residency. The Fellowship Award provides an opportunity for the recipient to study under the auspices of specialists in approved programs in and out of the United States. The award will go to an individual of exemplary character, who arranges a two to six week trip to study specific areas of Orthopaedics considered valuable by the Board of Directors of the Sofield Orthopaedic Association.
