Bordetella pertussis

Dr Tadayo Hashimoto M.D.
Professor
Department of Microbiology & Immunology

How do you prevent this disease?

  • Vaccination with whole killed cell or partially purified (acellular) vaccine

    • Included in universal DPT vaccines

    • Vaccine is proved effective

  • As seen in this case, pertussis immunization is contraindicated in patients where there is evidence of a progressive neurological deficit, or family of neurological disease in a first degree relative. There was a family history of epilepsy in the maternal uncle of Jerry.
