  • Prospective Randomized Trial of Shockwave Lithotripsy and Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy for Lower Pole Nephrolithiasis (Lower Pole Study 2)

This study is designed to evaluate different treatments for stones located in the lower part of the kidney. There are currently many ways (or procedures) that are used to treat kidney stones in this location. One procedure is called shock wave Lithotripsy (SWL), and the other procedure is called percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL). This study will attempt to determine the effectiveness, the rate of complications, and the cost associated with these two forms of treatment.

Males and females over the age of 18 are eligible for this study. Females cannot enroll in this study if they are pregnant.
