Clinical Faculty: David A. Hatch, M.D.
Professor of Urology and Pediatrics

Philosophy of Patient Care: A pediatric urologic problem can cause anxiety for children as well as parents. That's why it's important to provide more than just medical treatment. Parents and children need information about the cause of the problem and the treatment options. I am committed to providing my patients and their parents with answers to questions and state of the art medical treatment.

Sometimes children with urologic problems need surgery. When they do, it is important that they have such surgery in

a medical center that has extensive experience in the care of children. Loyola's Ronald McDonald Children's Hospital is a great place to receive that kind of care. We have experts in radiology (x-ray, nuclear medicine and ultrasound testing) and other pediatric specialties. Children who need surgery are cared for in the operating room by a team that includes a pediatric anesthesiologist who has special training and expertise.

I do all I can to make a visit to Ronald McDonald Children's Hospital or one of Loyola's outpatient clinics a good experience. I encourage children and their parents to ask questions. All of the doctors and nurses in the Section of Pediatric Urology are committed to providing the best medical care to children.

Clinical/Research Interests: Renal transplantation in patients with abnormal or absent bladders, application of laparoscopy to pediatric urology, hemodialysis access devices

Bio: Following his fellowship in pediatric urology, Dr. Hatch joined the faculty at Loyola's Stritch School of Medicine as the Chief of Pediatric Urology. He has served in that position and on Loyola's renal transplant team for 12 years. Dr. Hatch has a joint appointment in the Departments of Urology and Pediatrics and plays an active role in the university.

Dr. Hatch is a member of 10 medical specialty societies and served as President of the Urologic Society for Transplantation and Vascular Surgery. He has conducted funded research in immunologic responses to renal transplantation, bladder physiology in children and testicular prostheses. He has published over 30 articles on pediatric urology and renal transplantation. He has produced video presentations on surgical techniques in pediatric urology and an award-winning web site on genitourinary development.

Dr. Hatch and his wife, Susan Paxman, are the parents of three energetic sons, Aaron, Chandler and Colin. When he's not working in urology, Dr. Hatch enjoys woodworking, music (guitar and recorder), photography, biking and skiing.
