Endourology and
Laparoscopic Surgery Fellowship
The Division of Endourology and
Laparoscopic Surgery sponsors a one-year fellowship in endourology and
laparoscopy. This fellowship, which is recognized by the Endourology
Society, is a one-year clinical and research
fellowship that intends to provide training in all aspects of endourology
including laparoscopic urologic surgery, percutaneous kidney surgery, and
ureteroscopy. Research has recently focused on the use of fibrin glue in
urology, ureteral healing and the development of new laparoscopic surgical
procedures. Most graduates from this program have entered a career in
academic medicine; however, all interested urology residents are encouraged
to apply.
To do so, please send a
letter of interest and forward three letters of recommendation, CV and copy
of endourology application to Dr. Thomas M.T. Turk
at:

The fellowship is
directed by Dr. Thomas M.T. Turk. who is fellowship
trained in endourology. The fellowship consists of a large volume of
operative cases. Approximately 300-400 cases are done every year and the
approximate volume is:
- Percutaneous procedures: 125
- Ureteroscopic procedures: 150
- ESWL procedures: 75
- Laparoscopic procedures: 50
A fully equipped animal
laboratory is available for ureteroscopic and laparoscopic surgery. Fellows
also have access to basic science laboratories. There is no on campus
housing available. Fellows occasionally are asked to be available after
hours for telephone consultation, but there is no formal call. The fellows
rarely come in to perform surgical procedures at night.
