Loyola University offers a thriving fully-accredited, three-year Plastic Surgery residency experience whereby residents receive clinical training to more than adequately prepare them for a variety of career paths in this dynamic specialty. Clinical Program

We offer a strong clinical program with a great variety of cases. Our past graduates, who have come from all regions of the United States, have completed our program with approximately twice the number of operative cases as is required by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Most of our trainees have proceeded into private practice, though some have pursued additional training in competitive fellowship programs in Craniofacial, Microvascular, Hand, Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgery. Approximately 15% have chosen an academic career.

Our three-year residency program is independent. All residents are involved with clinical research projects, and are exposed to high quality didactic sessions along with additional training opportunities including:

  • Annual Cadaver Anatomy Course
  • Microvascular Techniques Course
  • Mock Orals Exam
  • Biannual Mission to Peru
  • Exposure to off-site locations for additional patient and case diversity

In sum, we pride ourselves on the high caliber of our faculty, the extensive and diverse clinical experience offered, and the graduated yet appropriate level of independence provided to our residents. We have been successful in our efforts to develop young plastic surgeons, measured not only by the accomplishments of our trainees, but also by the long-term friendships that have resulted. We welcome and enthusiastically embrace our residents as junior colleagues in this dynamic specialty.
