Diversity Clerkship in Trauma and Burn Care & Research
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Diversity Clerkship in Trauma and Burn Care and
Research is a four-week experience designed to introduce
students to clinical care in trauma and burn, as well as
research in these areas. The Clerk will participate in a
four-week clinical elective in Trauma/Critical Care (SURG
422) or in Burns (SURG 423). (Please see descriptions at
http://www.meddean.luc.edu/depts/regrec/catalog/index.htm).
The Clerk will also have the opportunity to learn more
about the research programs of the Burn and Shock Trauma
Institute at Loyola (http://www.luhs.org/bsti).
Clerks will attend a weekly research seminar in the
Institute, and will also have time to meet with research
faculty to discuss their research interests.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must fulfill the SSOM criteria for visiting
students, which are available at:
http://www.meddean.luc.edu/depts/regrec/catalog/v_policies.htm.
The
program targets students who have the potential to

from underrepresented populations in medicine are
strongly encouraged to apply.

The program offers a Clerkship award of $1,000 to
provide financial support for travel and housing
expenses.
TIMEFRAME FOR THE CLERKSHIP:
Following selection as a Clerk, students will be
