Prerequisite: YES - Consent of Instructor. Available to third and fourth year students.  
Special Note:  
Description: The student will learn the principles of epidemiologic research through: participation in ongoing studies; development of new smaller projects; analysis of available data; or review of the literature in a topic of interest. Participation in Department teaching seminars is expected. The student will be closely supervised by department faculty and be guided in producing a publishable manuscript, when applicable. Interested students should speak with the course superivsor several weeks before the elective period begins to discuss potential projects and preparation. A successful elective will generally require some advance planning. The student may choose to concentrate on biostatistics.
Method of Evaluation: Evaluation methods will vary depending on the project chosen. Students will be observed as to their success in meeting the stated objectives and willingness to participate and learn. Evaluation will also be based on the quality of written papers, when applicable.
