Description: This rotation is designed for the medical student who wishes to learn more about musculoskeletal diseases but does not want to spend time in surgery or caring for inpatients. The student rotates through the major orthopaedic outpatient clinics (trauma, adult reconstruction, pediatrics, hand, spine and rehabilitation) with the educational accent on patient assessment and identification of common musculoskeletal problems. The student attends regularly scheduled conferences designed to integrate basic sciences and to improve the reading of bone radiographs. By the end of the rotation, the student should be able to obtain an appropriate history, perform the relevant orthopaedic exam, formulate a working diagnosis and propose a further evaluation/treatment plan for common orthopaedic problems.
Method of Evaluation: Evaluation is based on the student's day-to-day performance, knowledge and attendance. A ten minute power point presentation is required during the concluding week of the rotation.
