Special Note: Students on this elective will also rotate at Stroger/Cook County Hospital  
Description: This elective is designed as a neurosurgical sub-internship, with the student immersed in Clinical Neurosurgery. The clinical experience will encompass the entire spectrum of neurosurgery including: trauma/critical care, cerebrovascular, tumor/cranial base, pediatrics, spinal, and peripheral nerve. The student will play an integral role as part of the neurosurgical team, assuming responsibilities on the floor, ICU, operating room, and outpatient clinic. The education process will include interpretation of diagnostic imaging (CT, MRI, angiography); the performance of the neurological exam; and the principles of pre-operative and post-operative management. Students will be required to attend the primary Neurosurgery educational conferences and present one lecture on the topic of their choice. Call with the neurosurgery residents is highly encouraged.
Method of Evaluation: Chief of Service will provide performance evaluation.
