Description:

Students on the elective pulmonary rotation will see in-patient pulmonary consults, and attend out-patient pulmonary clinics.  Under the supervision of the pulmonary fellow and specialty resident, the student will learn to read chest x-rays and CT scans, and interpret pulmonary function tests. The students will also assist the pulmonary fellow in performing thoracenteses and fiberoptic bronchoscopies. There will also be some exposure to lung transplant patients.

Diagnoses frequently encountered during the rotation include: asthma, emphysema, pulmonary hypertension, interstitial lung disease, cystic fibrosis, sarcoidosis, and lung cancer.

Method of Evaluation: Written evaluation by faculty member.
