| Description: |
This elective provides a comprehensive experience on the Nephrology Consultation Service. Students will be responsible for the consultation effort and daily follow-up of patients with acute and chronic renal disease, hypertension, and fluid-electrolyte abnormalities. The student's evaluation of patients and recommendations for treatment will be reviewed in-depth by a senior staff member in Nephrology. Indications and complications of dialysis techniques, transplantation and renal biopsy will be reviewed. While the student is not primarily responsible for floor service, he/she will be expected to participate in all teaching activities, including rounds and conferences. |
| Method of Evaluation: |
Evaluation of the student's performance will be based on participation in rounds, oral case presentations, consultation work-ups, and the presentations at the section's weekly Grand Rounds. |
