Prerequisite: Available to third and fourth year students.
Special Note: On the first day of the rotation, report at 8:30AM to Charmaine in Bldg. 54, Rm. 137 or report to Allene Durr in Bldg. 200, Rm. 1447 (at HVA).
Description: This elective provides an opportunity for students to become acquainted with outpatient and inpatient clinical endocrinology and Diabetes mellitus. Each student will take an active part in the consultation and outpatient services (FGM and HVA) and inpatient services (FGM and HVA) where he or she will evaluate patients independently under the supervision of a full-time faculty member. Students are expected to attend consultation rounds, outpatient Endocrine and Diabetes clinics (FGM and HVA), teaching rounds and lectures in clinical endocrinology, medical grand rounds and a weekly subspecialty conference. Ample time is provided for reading. The students may be asked to present a patient or topic in detail at a clinical conference. Students may undertake clinical or basic research projects in endocrinology by special arrangement with a faculty member.
Method of Evaluation: Participation in rounds and clinics with oral case presentations. Discussion of cases presented and evidence of reading about topics in endocrinology.
