This elective will occur over the 12-month period of either third OR fourth year for two weeks elective credit.
A variety of essential research topics will be presented in eight two-hour seminars held during the academic year. It is strongly recommended that you attend all eight sessions. To receive credit, you must attend 6 out of the 8 sessions (apprx. two per season). Specific dates and times vary each academic year. |

The Stritch School of Medicine offers a Research Honors Seminar for medical students who have been accepted into the Research Honors Program. This elective occurs in the third OR fourth year. This elective continues to build on the concepts, methodologies and foundations for research skills, its integrated role in clinical practice, and its application to lifelong practice and learning. Whether a medical graduate continues with an intense research application or chooses to maintain a less-intense research interest, this elective will provide a solid foundation for academic excellence, research and scholarship and provide structure for integration of ongoing biomedical research in clinical practice.
Following this elective, participants should be knowledgeable about the major categories of biomedical research and be able to compare and contrast the skills needed in these ty[es of research endeavors. In addition, participants should be able to identify the critical elements for the following research activities, including forming the study, question, designing the optimal study, planning and conducting the study and disseminating the study's findings. |

2. Assessment:
- Ability to engage in seminar discussions based on required reading and other advanced preparation activities.
- Assessment of the scientific communication skills demonstrated by the teacher during observation of the required presentations.
- Direct faculty observation and formative/summative feedback will be provided on an ongoing basis by elective faculty and/or course director.
3. Required reading, small group assignments, and interactive projects will be required.
4. A final project will be required. The project will be collaberatively agreed upon among the course directors and the student. Its content will be driven by the students' interests and learning needs.
