Dear Candidate:
The Department of
Radiology at Loyola University, Stritch School of Medicine, is one of the
best-recognized resident training programs in the Midwest. The Loyola
mission of compassionate and excellent medical care carries through the
Radiology Department as well as the remainder of the medical center. The
Loyola Radiology faculty has consistently provided high quality education
over the last thirty years. As an academic Radiology department, we provide
state-of-the-art equipment and innovative procedures for the residents to
participate in during their clinical training.
Loyola offers prospective
candidates an opportunity to participate in the frontiers of radiology in
our neurointerventional imaging program as well as our endovascular program.
With a high volume of clinical cases, you will see a comprehensive array of
pathology in a tertiary care medical center. Throughout the training
program, residents receive a combination of didactic sessions, personal
tutorials, journal clubs, mentoring and a concentration of practical
experience.
Residents with an
interest have had no difficulty in obtaining fellowships at leading
institutions in this country. Our residents are sought after for private
practice as well as academic practice because of the excellent experiences
many medical groups have had with the Loyola residency program. For those
interested in academics, our former residents have served as Chairmen of
Radiology departments and populate the academic faculty of many first rate
institutions in this country.
This is a very exciting
time in our department. Two new imaging centers have opened and PACS has
been completely integrated. The ambulatory center and off-sites are
completely digital with state-of-the-art CT and MRI. Digital imaging
archiving and distribution throughout the health care network is now in
place. In addition, current commitment to equipment includes state of the
art Breast MRI, a new 3T magnet, a 64 slice CT scanner in the ER and a
Neuro-endovascular suite. This capital equipment helps our Radiology
Faculty keep our imaging program at the forefront of medical imaging. Using
our basic science faculty, instruction in basic principles of digital
imaging and computers occurs on a routine basis throughout the residency
program.
There is no more exciting
time to enter the field of Radiology than today. The radiologist now is both
a diagnostician and a treating physician. The Loyola program is designed to
prepare you for either private practice or fellowship and further academic
practice. In either event, your training at Loyola will stand you in good
stead throughout your career.
Yours truly,
Marc A. Borge, M.D., FSIR
Professor and
Interim Chairman
Department of Radiology
