Overview of the Master’s in Clinical Research Methods Program

PresentationThe Master’s Program in Clinical Research Methods is a two-year program which combines evening class work with mentored research in order to provide students with the skills needed to become an independent clinical researcher. The Loyola Masters of Science in Clinical Research Methods Program includes classes on Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Clinical Trials along with supervised computer lab work in conjunction with research mentoring.

Each course lasts 10 weeks, and classes are held in the evenings once a week from 6-9 p.m. A total of 24 credit hours and a completed research project are required for completion of degree.

The research project is the culminating experience of the Master’s program and will require each student to design a clinical research proposal or completion of a research project.

This program embraces the variety of clinical and research experience each student brings to the program, and each student will be encouraged to pursue their own clinical research interests.

  Research Project

All students must demonstrate integration of knowledge obtained through the program by presenting a research project (either a completed research project or research proposal) to the Masters of Science in Clinical Research Methods Program Curriculum Committee. This research project or proposal will incorporate the skills and concepts obtained from the coursework. Faculty will provide feedback on the oral presentation. A formal written research proposal in the form of a grant application or completed research project in the form of a manuscript will then be submitted for a final grade. This research proposal may provide the foundation for future research projects. Students will be assigned 2 mentors, one from the Masters of Science in Clinical Research Methods Program faculty and a one from a clinical department suitable for their project. Students will choose their own topic, but all topics must be approved by both mentors.
