Typical Schedule
An example of a typical four-year schedule is depicted below. During the first two years, the resident learns the basic aspects of the core services in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. During the third and fourth years, the resident spends additional time in the core services and also spends time learning basic aspects of more specialized laboratory medicine. Elective time for in-depth training in one of the many subspecialities of pathology and/or research are available. In addition, during the third and fourth years, the residents are expected to become proficient at the integration of laboratory findings with other data relevant to patient management. An introduction to administrative, managerial, and computer skills is also part of this training program.
