Residency Program

Residents rotate at both Loyola University Medical Center and Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital, which together provide diverse and challenging learning material. Both hospitals serve as referral centers and provide a wealth of interesting cases in laboratory medicine. Faculty members from the community are also involved in the training program. The combined program thus provides a unique patient population, adding a broad and diverse training experience.

The Department of Pathology is composed of three major divisions: Anatomic, Clinical, and Research. Within each division, there are a variety of services and research opportunities. Training in both Clinical and Anatomical Pathology is offered. The majority of the residents are in the combined program. The program is approved for sixteen residents.

The residency program includes participation in numerous clinical inter- and intra-departmental teaching conferences. These educational experiences provide a foundation for skills as clinical consultants. Scholarly activities in clinical and basic research are emphasized in our department, giving the resident many opportunities to be recognized in the field of pathology.
