Education

Dr. Erşahin completed his Anatomic and Clinical Pathology training at Loyola University Medical Center where he also served as a Chief Resident and Assistant Chief Resident.  He followed with a Breast and Gynecologic Pathology fellowship at Magee Women’s Hospital of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Dr. Erşahin is certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP).

Dr. Erşahin received his MD degree from Ege University School of Medicine, Turkey.  He completed a residency in Clinical Chemistry at Marmara University and he presently holds Certification in Clinical Chemistry in the US. 

Before starting his residency, Dr. Erşahin received a PhD degree from Loyola University in the field of Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Northwestern University.  At Northwestern, he was awarded an NIH post-doctoral grant to investigate the role of estradiol treatment on melatonin receptors in reproductive organs, and an ASPET Young Scientist Travel Award to attend the Experimental Biology Meeting.  His poster presented at the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics annual scientific meeting was awarded 1st prize in the post-doctoral category. During his residency training at Loyola, Dr. Erşahin received College of American Pathologists (CAP) Foundation Informatics Award and an AMA Seed Grant enabling him to continue his research. Dr. Erşahin is an author of numerous peer-reviewed papers and abstracts and a contributing author in two books.  One of his recent papers was featured on the cover of Diagnostic Cytopathology. Additionally, he and his colleagues submitted the complete nucleotide sequences of membrane-bound aminopeptidase P in rats and mice to NIH GenBank.    

Research Interests

Dr. Erşahin’s main research interests are breast and gynecologic malignancies and bradykinin degrading peptidases.

Dr. Erşahin is a member of College of American Pathologists, American Society for Clinical Pathology, US and Canadian Academy of Pathology, Chicago Pathology Society-Illinois Registry of Anatomic Pathology. 

Licensure

Dr. Erşahin holds full medical licensure in Illinois and Pennsylvania (inactive).
