Welcome to the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery at Loyola (Also known as ENT or the Ear, Nose, and Throat Department)

Otolaryngology - Head and Neck physicians are specialists in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the ears, nose, sinuses, throat, head and neck. This includes tumors of the head, neck, ear, nose and sinus.

Our Department is internationally recognized for it expertise in nasal and sinus disease, skull base and head and neck tumors, ear, as well as mastoid surgery and ear related brain tumors in adults and children. Drs. Stankiewicz, Leonetti, Marzo, Welch, Borrowdale, and Bier-Laning provide this expertise. Dr. Patadia is a specialist in rhinology, allergy, and facial plastics. In addition, our Department provides evaluations and treatment of obstructive sleep apnea and snoring surgery. Our cutting-edge Pediatric Otolaryngology faculty, Drs. Hotaling, McDonald and Rosenthal), provide evaluation and treatment for pediatric ear, nose, and throat problems. Drs. Charous and Kaszuba provide expertise with diagnosis and treatment of voice and swallowing disorders. General otolaryngology problems are handled by Drs. Matz, Muzaffar, and Dr. Brubaker. Drs. Matz and Muzaffar are both former Chairman. Dr. Raffin and his staff in Audiology test and evaluate hearing and balance problems. Affiliated with the Department is the Hines VA program, led by Dr. Muzaffar and Dr. Kim. This program is an excellent educational , research and clinical program which treats the medical problems of our nations veterans. Many of the faculty work with patients at the Hines VA Hospital, including Dr. Marzo, who directs our Hearing Center and residency program. Dr. Konior assists with plastic and reconstructive services for our patients. In total, we provide a complete program of care in all areas of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.

The Department performs both clinical and basic research in cooperation with many other departments at Loyola. Our members have written several key papers based on research performed in Head and Neck Oncology, facial nerve and balance disorders, sinusitis, and sleep disorders.

Our educational expertise mirrors our research and clinical expertise. The Department provides many local and national teaching conferences. For example, in 2011 more than 45 papers were presented by Loyola faculty at national and international meetings. Our educational goals aimed at training medical students and residents have been met. Our residents have consistently passed the Board examination for Otolaryngology for over 30 years. Our program is part of the Loyola University Health System and such service is available to provide care to all Loyola patients and their families.

The Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery was recognized in the 2012 US News and World Report as the 35th best program in the USA.
