Michael J.M. Raffin
Associate Professor

Dr. Raffin received his PhD in Audiology from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, IA in 1976. He is the Director of the Department of Audiology for the Loyola University Health System, and also has an academic appointment with the Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine, Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Raffin also is an affiliated faculty member of the Parmly Hearing Institute of Chicago.

Since 1976, Dr. Raffin has produced 35 scientific articles and book chapters. In addition, through refereed submissions as well as invitations, Dr. Raffin has presented numerous scientific papers at professional society meetings as well as to patient groups. Many of Dr. Raffin's publications deal with technical as well as statistical aspects of test interpretation and administration to improve test efficiency and outcomes analyses, ranging from routine tests (such as speech discrimination and pure-tone threshold) to more elaborate electrophysiologic tests (such as Brainstem Evoked Response and Otoacoustic emissions).

Special Interests:
Underlying assumptions of test administration and interpretation; models of optimized decision-making approaches; data analyses and determinants of clinical relevance.

Academic Background:
BA, 1967 from California State College, Los Angeles in French and in Philosophy.

PhD, 1976, University of Iowa, in Audiology.
